New Law on National Councils to come in 2017

BELGRADE - A draft version of the new on National Councils of National Minorities is expected next year, while the law itself should be enacted in 2017, State Secretary Ivan Bosnjak said Tuesday.

The new law will ensure greater transparency in spending money, but also an effective de-politicization of the national councils, Bosnjak told Tanjug.

It will also clearly delineate responsibilities entrusted to the national councils concerning education, use of their language and script, culture and information, he added.

Bosnjak explained that the drafting process will involve experts and all interested parties - national councils of national minorities, scientific institutions, civil society organizations, ministries, local governments and international organizations.
