ATHEX: Bourse climbs on domestic and global optimism

International market euphoria over the rise of oil prices to a year-high, coupled with domestic certainty over the disbursement of the long-overdue bailout sub-tranche brought gains of over 1 percent to the Greek bourse's benchmark on Monday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 583.27 points, adding 1.03 percent to Friday's 577.30 points. The FTSE 25 index expanded 1.99 percent to end at 1,553.84 points. However, mid-caps shed 1.19 percent.

Along with Coca-Cola HBC, which jumped 2.39 percent, bank stocks were responsible for pushing the main index higher: Piraeus rose 5.63 percent, National yielded 4.74 percent, Eurobank advanced 3.97 percent and Alpha grabbed 3.77 percent. Also, Viohalco (up 3.15 percent) and OTE (2.98 percent) were among the day's leaders. Titan Cement fell 1.12 percent and PPC shed 1.11 percent.
