Dimitar Abadjiev is the First Bulgarian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Bulgaria's first ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dimitar Abadjiev, arrived in Riyadh, the foreign ministry announced on Wednesday.

This is another stop in Abadjiev's long career, which has gone through several parties and different state appointments. The former MP, who went through the UDF, the DSB and reached the OLP, was appointed ambassador to Slovenia three years ago but did not get his full mandate after the government of Boyko Borisov, with the consent of President Rumen Radev, decided to transfer him to Saudi Arabia .

Previously, Abadjiev was Consul General in Shanghai, a representative of Bulgaria in the leadership of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International and others.

Now Abadjiev became the first Bulgarian ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Both countries have diplomatic relations since 1995, but so far there has been no Bulgarian diplomatic representation in Riyadh.

Ambassador Abadjiev is expected to deliver copies of his letters of credence to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs next week.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov announced that our country plans to open an embassy in Riyadh during his visit to Saudi Arabia in November 2017. In the following year, the opening process was launched.

Bulgaria's expectations are that the new mission will lead to a deepening of the business relations between the two countries. Bulgarian Foreign Minister meets several times with his Saudi counterpart Abel al-Jubier. According to her, Bulgarian companies are interested in participating in the implementation of new engineering and construction projects in the country.
