Justice Ministry state secretary steps down

Ljubljana – Anže Erbežnik, a state secretary at the Justice Ministry, has stepped down after less than a month on the job, the ministry confirmed for the STA.

Erbežnik was named to the post on 22 June, a week after Marjan Dikaučič was appointed minister following the resignation of Lilijana Kozlovič over the government’s refusal to appoint two European delegated prosecutors.

It remains unclear whether his resignation has anything to do with ongoing disputes between the government and prosecutors over the appointment of the Slovenian members of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).

An associate professor at New University’s European Faculty of Law in Nova Gorica, Erbežnik had been put forward as a candidate for a Constitutional Court judge, but failed to garner enough support in parliament in October 2020.
