Washington trip called off due to ND conference

The planned visit to Washington next week by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to attend the annual event commemorating the Greek Revolution has been canceled as it coincides with the conference of ruling New Democracy. 

Mitsotakis was to travel to the US on April 4 to attend the White House event where he was to also have a meeting with President Joe Biden. 

Briefing reporters on Thursday, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said the program ultimately "didn't work out," as the ND conference marking 50 years since its establishment kicks off on April 5, only a day after the scheduled meeting. 

Marinakis noted that it is not customary for Greek PMs to go to the event in question at the White House; "however, this year there was an attempt to go, but the dates do not work."
