Kenyans Gilbert Chumba, Emmah Cheruto Ndiwa win Belgrade Marathon

BELGRADE- Kenyans Gilbert Chumba and Emmah Cheruto Ndiwa won the Comtrade Belgrade Marathon on Sunday.

For nearly 40 km, Chumba was on his way to beat the race record set by his compatriot Japheth Kosgei in 2006 (2:10:54), but his pace slumped in the final 2.5 km, and he finished the men's event in 2:11:48.

Kenyan Gilbert Muge claimed the second place, finishing in 2:12:20, and another Kenyan, Emmanuel Kipkogei, took the third position after finishing in 2:20:41.

Kenya dominated the women's race, too, as Ndiwa (2:31:31) and Vitalina Dzemayo (2:34:32) clinched the first and second places, while Ethiopian Tadese Bedada claimed the third position after crossing the finish line in 2:36:39.
