LSE says Deutsche Boerse merger in doubt

The London Stock Exchange on Feb. 26 said it is "highly unlikely" it will be able to meet antitrust conditions set by Brussels for its tie-up with Deutsche Boerse, throwing the merger into doubt.

The announcement by LSE, which also operates the Milan stock exchange, is the latest twist in its longstanding attempt to merge with the German stock exchange operator.

Hungary starts construction of second border fence

Hungary has begun building a second line of fence along its southern border with Serbia, a government spokesman said on Feb. 27, a move likely to exacerbate criticism from some of the country's European Union partners.

Saudi Arabia's Aramco to invest $7 bln in Malaysia oil refinery

Saudi Arabia's Aramco will invest $7 billion in a giant Malaysian oil refinery project, Prime Minister Najib Razak said Monday, as he declared ties with the kingdom were "at an all-time high."
The deal between Aramco and Malaysia's Petronas for the $27 billion project will be signed on Feb. 28, the prime minister said.     

KRG leader Barzani meets HDP politicians

Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani met with Ahmet Türk, the ousted co-mayor of Mardin for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), and Ağrı Co-Mayor Sırrı Sakık, on Feb. 27 to discuss the shattered peace process in Turkey.

Elections scheduled for five local assemblies

National Assembly President Maja Gojkovic has called elections for the city assembly of Zajecar and municipal assemblies of Vrbas, Odzaci, Kovin and Kosjeric.

The voting has been scheduled for April 23.

Number of employed women in Turkey falls 40,000

The number of employed women in Turkey decreased 40,000 in November 2016 compared to the same month of 2015, according to a new report prepared by the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV). 

TEPAV's latest workforce report stated that the fall in women's employment amounted to a 1 percent drop year-on-year in the same period.

Five people murdered per day across Turkey in 2016: Report

Five people were murdered per day across Turkey in 2016, according to a report from the Police Department and the Gendarmerie Command.

Firearms were used the most in the 1,948 murders committed in the country in 2016, the report said.
Most of the murders were committed due to conflicts over money or honor killings, according to official figures. 

Serbia's Ljajic to travel to Turkey for official visit

Deputy PM and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic will on February 28 and March 1 be on an official visit to Turkey.

Ljajic will meet with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, the Serbian government announced on Monday.

EBRD to present Transition Report at Kopaonik Business Forum
