Athens reacts to demolition of ethnic Greeks' homes in Himara

Athens on Thursday reacted to a decision by Albanian authorities to demolish several homes belonging to ethnic Greek families in Himara, a predominantly ethnic Greek seaside holiday resort in the Balkan country, saying that the move effectively undermined Tirana's EU membership ambitions.

U.S. Acknowledges More Troops in Afghanistan than Previously Stated

About 11,000 U.S. troops are serving in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said on Wednesday, thousands more than it has previously stated.

The announcement by Pentagon officials at a news conference did not represent an increase in troops in Afghanistan and came after U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis expressed frustration with the method of counting U.S. troops in conflict zones.

Kosovo is Optimistic about its Admission to INTERPOL

Kosovo is optimistic about its admission to Interpol. At the end of September Interpol's Executive Committee will vote on whether to accept the country in its ranks, Kosovo State Television RTK2 announced.

Prime Minister Isa Moussa leaves for Beijing on September 26th, where the Interpol supreme body will meet.

After meeting the Presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, Hashim Thaçi and Aleksandar Vucic, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said both sides had promised to implement an EU-mediated deal on justice.

"President got rid of police security" - says police union

The Police (Trade) Union of Serbia (PSS) has announced that a police unit providing security to the president of the Republic has been "disbanded."

According to a statement, carried on Thursday by Beta, this happened in early August, with 80 specially trained officers getting reassigned to various other police units.

Train Crash in Poland, Fortunately without Casualties

Passenger and freight train collided in northern Poland. About 20 people are injured, local authorities said. The incident happened not far from the town of Grudziadz. As a result of the accident the passenger train came out of the rails.

Vote for new center-left party leader to be held in November

The first round of elections to pick a leader for Greece's new center-left party will be held on November 5, it was announced Wednesday. A second runoff vote was scheduled for a week later, on November 12.

Earlier reports had suggested that the ballot would take place next month.
