Parliament opens inquiry into controversial Ljubljana sewerage project

The National Assembly has opened a parliamentary inquiry into approval and construction of a section of an EU-subsidised sewerage project in Ljubljana over concerns that it will jeopardise the source of drinking water for 300,000 residents of Slovenia's capital. The contentious stretch is about to be completed.

On the Zidani Most-Ljubljana route, a train derailed and ran into a landslide, while another avalanche of stones partially buried the bus, reports RTV Slovenia.
A stone avalanche partially buried and damaged a bus at the construction site of the Zagorje on Sava-Litija road, and two passengers were slightly injured.

US firm picks Logatec as its European production centre

Precision Resource, a US-owned company specialising in the development of fineblanking technology, has set up its Europe-based production facility in Slovenia. The new factory is based in Logatec, southwest of Ljubljana.

In addition to the new facility, the company has seven other production sites in the US, Canada, Mexico and China.

Slovenia’s EuroBasket hopes dashed

Slovenia lost the first two games at the European Women Basketball Championship, ruining their prospects to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time, the goal at what is their fourth EuroBasket to date.

The team lost against Germany 62:66 at Stožice Arena in Ljubljana on 16 June and 71:76 against Great Britain on 15 June, when the event opened.

Legendary fast food joint named brand of the year

Years ago Burek Olimpija was a typical Ljubljana fast food joint known mostly to locals as purveyors of delicious burek, a typical Balkan savoury pastry. In recent years, however, it has harnessed social media to such an effect that it has been declared the brand of the year at the country's largest advertising festival, a prize typically reserved for large corporate brands.

More than 70 events at Imago Sloveniae

The summer season in Ljubljana will feature around 70 concerts by performers from 24 countries as part of two summer festivals running from 15 June to 22 September, the 35th Imago Sloveniae festival of classical music and the Nights in Old Ljubljana Town.

Imago Sloveniae opens with a concert of the Symphony Orchestra of the SNG Maribor theatre in Congress Square.
