Volunteer doctors reaching out to remote communities
As part of the Umbrella campaign to reach remote communities, pediatricians volunteered to travel to remote municipalities around Greece to vaccinate children and inform parents.
Greek Health Minister Polakis receives 10-month prison sentence
Greek Alternate Minister of Health Pavlos Polakis received a suspended 10-month prison sentence for a case regarding the illegal construction of a jetty. Mr. Polakis had been charged in 2011 with building a jetty without a proper permit from the competent authorities in the municipality of Sfakia, Crete when he was acting Mayor.
Tempest stuns western Crete
Flights were canceled and trees uprooted on Monday in western Crete after it was hit by a violent storm that caused torrential rain and floods in the wider region of Hania, including the villages of Askifou, Sfakia and Falasarna and the Samaria Gorge.

Activists launch flotilla against Syria chemicals
Nearly 40 activists from Greece and Italy plan to launch a flotilla from the port of Hania on Crete on Friday to protest the decommissioning of Syrias chemical weapons stockpile in the sea south of the island.

Protests on Crete as destruction of Syrian chemicals begins
Residents, unionists and members of nongovernmental organizations blocked the road to the NATO naval base in Souda Bay, Crete, on Saturday in protest at the ongoing destruction of Syrian chemical weapons on board a ship anchored off the island.
