British supermodel Kate Moss turns 50

British supermodel Kate Moss, whose looks embodied "Cool Britannia" in the 1990s, turns 50 tomorrow, and still fascinates the country.

In September last year, the catwalk star told The Times newspaper that she was "in denial" about hitting her half century.

"I'm not turning 50," she said in an interview. "No, I'm not thinking about it. I do not feel 50."

Hollywood actors ratify contract to formally end strike

Hollywood actors overwhelmingly ratified a new, hard-fought deal with studios on Dec. 5 that paves the way for a rebound of an entertainment industry that had seen film and television production come to a halt during a months-long strike.

The Screen Actors Guild, known as SAG-AFTRA, said 78 percent of members who voted approved the multiyear contract.

‘The Horse Whisperer’ author Nicholas Evans dead at 72

British writer Nicholas Evans, who authored the international best-selling novel "The Horse Whisperer," has died at the age of 72, his literary agent announced on Monday.

A screenwriter and journalist as well as a novelist, Evans died on Tuesday last week following a heart attack. His death was only made public on Aug. 15.

Russell Crowe donates to Beirut's iconic restaurant

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe has made a donation to a fundraiser to help repair a restaurant destroyed in last week's Beirut explosion.

Le Chef, an iconic restaurant, is located in Gemmayze, the neighborhood closest to the blast site.

"The restaurant has survived war and economic crises, but the port explosion left it in shambles," according to its GoFundMe page on Aug. 13. 

Big crowds force HOC to suspend Olympic torch relay in Greece

The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) decided to suspend the remainder of the Olympic Torch relay through the country to avoid attracting crowds because of coronavirus, it said on Friday.

But HOC said the opening leg of the relay in the southern Peloponnese town of Sparta attracted an "unexpectedly large crowd," forcing it to suspend the remaining stops.
