Beleri unlikely to be ND candidate in European Parliament elections

Fredi Beleri, an ethnic Greek mayor-elect in Albania sentenced to two years in prison in March for vote-buying, is unlikely to be a candidate for the European Parliament with Greece's ruling party, New Democracy, in June's European Parliament election, Kathimerini understands. 

New parliament sworn in

Greece's new Parliament was sworn in on Monday, following the general elections held on June 25. The ceremony took place in the presence of Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Following the religious oath, Muslim members of Parliament swore on the Quran, while those who preferred to do so, took the political oath.

Mitsotakis says to respect name deal if ratified by Parliament

Greek opposition leader has said he will respect the country's name deal with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) if this is ratified by Parliament.

"I have made it clear that I do not like this agreement," Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper in an interview.
