Golden Belt karate tournament held in Cacak

CACAK - Montenegrin karate fighter Mijat Vojvodic is the winner of the 44th Golden Belt tournament, held last weekend in Cacak, central Serbia.

Serbia's Stefan Semlal finished second, with Jose Manuel Lopez of Spain and Mehman Rzaev of Russia both in third.

CHARLESTON - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic has reached the third round of the Charleston WTA tennis tournament by beating Tatjana Maria 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1 in the second round late Tuesday CET.

Jankovic, the current world number 17, and Maria, who ranks 13th, played an extraordinary match that featured as many as 13 break points won.

A court invader at a Eurocup basketball game got more than he bargained for when he shoved a visiting Turkish side Banvit Band?rma player, but was then sent sprawling to the deck by a full-blown punch from his teammate.

Video footage from the match in Montenegro between hosts Buducnost Podgorica and Banvit showed a fan dashing onto the court and pushing Sammy Mejia in the back.

Serbia ousted from European Championship

OSIJEK - World vice champions Serbia failed to qualify for the second phase of the 2014 European Women's Handball Championship after losing to Slovakia 23-21 (6-11) in their last group D match of the Preliminary Round in Osijek (Croatia) last night.

The team coached by Sasa Boskovic lost all the three matches it played in the group, from Montenegro, France and Slovakia.

OSIJEK - Serbia lost to France 27-16 (11-3) in the second round of Group D of the women's handball European championships in Osijek, Croatia, on Wednesday.

This was Serbia's second defeat at this event, after losing to Montenegro 22-19 in the first round.
