Turkey’s Communications Chief Accuses Reuters of ‘Manipulation’

UN accepts country’s push to be known as ‘Turkiye’

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has sent a letter to the United Nations formally requesting that his country be referred to as "Turkiye," with the U.N. late on June 1 accepting the demand.

The move is seen as part of a push by Ankara to rebrand the country and dissociate its name from the bird, turkey, and some negative connotations that are associated with it.

Erdoğan, Rouhani discuss relations over phone

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani over phone, the country's Directorate of Communications said on Feb. 21.

The two leaders discussed steps to improve Turkey-Iran cooperation in economy, transportation, security, and other areas.

Erdoğan also reiterated the will to boost Turkey-Iran relations.

567th anniversary of conquest of Istanbul marked at Hagia Sophia

The conquest of Istanbul was celebrated on May 29, 567 years after Fatih Sultan Mehmet gained victory in Istanbul, with a special program in Hagia Sophia.

Erdoğan, Merkel discuss developments in Syria, Libya

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss Syria and Libya, an official statement said on Dec. 29.

According to the statement issued by Turkey's Directorate of Communications, the two leaders also addressed the bilateral relations and regional developments.
