According to government data, 462 far-right extremists with warrants out for their arrest are still at large in Germany. Ulla Jelpke, a lawmaker for Die Linke (The Left) party, said the figure indicates the presence of an "established Nazi underground."

Germany has granted political asylum to numerous Turkish military personnel and their families holding diplomatic passports, German media reported on May 8, amid strained relations between the two NATO allies.

More than 200 people have left Germany since 2013 to take up arms with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing, the People's Protection Units (YPG), on the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, the German Interior Ministry has said, adding that 69 of them were German passport holders.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has rejected an accusation by his Turkish counterpart that Germany backs the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), saying such organizations were banned in Germany. 

The German Interior Ministry wants to stop migrants ever reaching Europe's Mediterranean coast by picking them up at sea and returning them to Africa, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported on Nov. 6. 

Germany and Switzerland have strengthened border patrols on their common border in order to prevent migrants from travelling north and violating EU rules on asylum, reported BTA.

Switzerland, although not a part of the EU, has become an important transit country for migrants who cross the Mediterranean, arrive in Italy and wish to move on into Germany and Scandinavian countries.

At least three Turkish diplomats, reportedly including one military attache, are seeking asylum in Germany in the wake of the failed military coup in Turkey, believed to have been masterminded by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), German media cited government sources as saying. 

German security and intelligence forces are conducting nationwide operations to detect terrorist cells, following the revelations that a jihadist group from Dusseldorf was planning large scale attacks across Germany. According to new information, German authorities suspect over 180 people are linked to the Islamic State (IS) and other jihadist groups.

The Greek government is scrambling to find aid in its efforts to deal with the humanitarian refugee crisis.
