Antikythera seabed yielding more gifts

Poseidon cooperated this time around. The ancient Greek god blessed the archaeologists, divers and scientists in their latest mission to the Antikythera wreck with smooth seas. Because since 2014, when research resumed at the site of antiquity's most famous sunken ship, rough seas whipped up by gale-force winds have always stood as an obstacle.

Ancient textiles draw archaeologists’ interest

A folded piece of ancient fabric discovered in a funerary urn at an archaeological dig in Athens in the 1980s is prepared for a CT scan. New imaging technology has spurred interest in ancient fabrics, with the Greek Ministry of Culture taking part in EuroWeb, a European network of scholars and stakeholders dedicated to the history and conservation of textiles and related crafts.

Archaeologists discover ancient Greek theatre of Thouria in near perfect condition! (photos)

Greek archaeologists have brought to light an extensive portion of the ancient theatre of Thouria, near the port town of Kalamata in the Peloponnese, the Greek Ministry of Culture said on Thursday.
The excavation at the site of ancient Thouria unearthed the entire perimeter of the orchestra pit in the theater, the diameter of which is 16.30m.

On Thursday night, September 21st, the architect-restorer of the Greek Ministry of Culture, Mr. Michaelis Lefantzis, who is more widely know for the great archeological discovery at Amphipolis in Macedonia, presented in the Main Naval Station of the Hellenic Navy, on the island of Salamis, another important find which relates to what we call industrial and/or technological archeology.

The Fethiye Mosque in Athens re-opens: Erdogan’s dream comes true with Greek blessings!

The Fethiye Mosque (Gr.: Φετιχιέ τζαμί) is located in Athens right under the Acropolis. After being used a storage for local ancient artifacts and fragments, it was decided by the Greek Ministry of Culture back in 2010 that it should be renovated and to be used for various cultural activities and of course be open to visitors.

Archaeologists from the Greek Ministry of Culture along their Danish colleague from the University of Copenhagen are investigating the ancient city of Lechaio near Corinth with great success so far. The team has searched thoroughly the port of the city as it is believed that it holds an impressive volume of information and artifacts.
