Kasidiaris is currently serving a 13-year jail sentence for his key role in the far-right wing party Golden Dawn in 2020.

While serving his sentence, he created a new far-right party, the National Party - Greeks.

National elections on June 25 in Greece will be held under the system of "reinforced" proportional representation, which differs from proportional representation that the May 21 national ballot was held under, in that it allocates bonus seats in Parliament.

The growing frustration with politics felt by most Greeks will be expressed in the upcoming elections with an increase in abstention and a tendency to reject systemic parties and strengthen fringe formations - phenomena that will make it more difficult to govern, while also affecting the legitimacy of any government.

The Greek parliament on Tuesday passed a new amendment to recent legislation to ensure the far-right Greeks-National party cannot participate in elections due in May.

A retired senior prosecutor in Greece was named Friday as the new leader of a far-right party as it seeks to sidestep a ban on its participation in an upcoming general election.

Ilias Kasidiaris, the jailed former MP and spokesperson for the Greek National Party (Ellines), is reportedly considering to install former prosecutor Anastasios (Tasos) Kanellopoulos as formal leader of his far-right party in an attempt to evade a potential election ban. 

A draft bill on "prevention and management of violence and bullying phenomena in schools" was approved by the Greek Parliament plenary on Wednesday.

The government will exhaust the possibilities provided by the Constitution to secure a broad political understanding so that criminal organizations are not represented in the Greek Parliament, according to government sources cited by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, referring to efforts to stop the Ellines party led by the imprisoned Ilias Kasidiaris, a former leading member of the outlawed n
