Turkish novelist Aslı Erdoğan gets passport back

Turkish authorities have returned novelist Aslı Erdoğan's passport and she is expected to travel to Europe soon, more than two months after her travel ban was lifted, her lawyer said on Sept. 8.

Erdoğan, one of the country's leading contemporary novelists, was given her passport on Sept. 7, her lawyer Erdal Doğan told AFP.

Travel bans of novelist Erdoğan, linguist Alpay lifted

A court on June 22 lifted foreign travel bans imposed on one of Turkey's leading contemporary novelists, Aslı Erdoğan, and linguist Necmiye Alpay after they were put on trial on charges of "supporting terrorist groups."

The move by the Istanbul court will allow Erdoğan to travel abroad and receive prizes she has been unable to collect due the ban.
