Prisons bill amendment seeks softer treatment of inmates' partners, family
The government on Thursday submitted to Parliament an amendment to be tagged onto the bill foreseeing the scrapping of maximum-security prisons that would allow inmates? partners or relatives who are deemed to be suspects to be held under house arrest rather than in custody.

Anarchist group, Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, put an end to its hunger strike, claiming victory after 32 days. The 22 hunger strikers from the group, known for its series of fire bombings around Greece, put an end to their protest, stating that the demands of their action are being met through the release of the Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalou's mother and the latter's companion.

Suspect won't post bail unless convict's girlfriend is freed
The mother of two convicted members of guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos, refused on Wednesday to post the 10,000-euro bail payment that would secure her conditional release, saying she would only pay if the girlfriend of one of her two sons is also released from pretrial custody.
