Paramount Pictures unveiled gory first-look footage from "Gladiator 2" to movie theater bosses at Caesars Palace casino in Las Vegas on April 11, raising cheers even as the studio and big-screen industry face uncertain times.

Warner Bros. isn't resting on its " Barbie " laurels: The 100-year studio has its sights on a record-breaking 2024 as well, with a release slate that includes a new Mad Max film, " Furiosa," Kevin Costner's two-part Western epic, " Horizon: An American Saga, " the " Beetlejuice " sequel, and "Joker: Folie à Deux," which brings Lady Gaga to Gotham City.

South Korean film "Parasite" has been named best picture at this year's Oscars, becoming the first non-English language film to take the top prize. Parasite won four awards in total: as the best international film, for best director, and the best original screenplay award.

The supervillain origin story of Arthur Fleck's descent into madness and emergence as the titular Joker took home the most Academy Award nominations Jan. 13 with 11, including Best Picture.

War epic "1917" shocked the Golden Globes on Jan. 5 by claiming the top prize for best drama film, while Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" won comedy honors, boosting their prospects for next month's Oscars.

The 68th International Film Festival in Berlin opens with the world premiere of the animated film "Isle of Dogs" by director Wes Anderson.

19 films are featured in the competition, and the chairman of the jury is German director Tom Tikwer.

Swedish director Ruben Ostlund's The Square has won this year's Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival on May 28.
