Some 10,000 rental homes to be built in Istanbul

Preparations are in the final stage to launch a project that is designed to address the growing housing problem in Istanbul by developing 10,000 rental homes.

The Real Estate Investors Association (GYODER) in July first floated the idea of devising a new model to increase home supply in the country's largest city.

Construction sector suffers from labor shortage

Türkiye's construction sector is struggling with labor shortages, while the problem is expected to grow as new projects begin in 11 of all 81 provinces in the country that were affected by the devastating earthquakes in February.

The lack of workers adds to the industry's already existing problems, such as elevated costs, people from the sector said.

Historical Vaniköy Mosque, destroyed in fire, restored

The 358-year-old Vaniköy Mosque in Istanbul's Üsküdar district, destroyed by the fire in 2020, has been restored.

The historical Vaniköy Mosque, one of the 11 mosques adorning the Bosphorus, was reduced to ash on Nov. 15, 2020.

The mosque was restored with the support of Mehmet Kalyoncu, chairman of the Kalyon Foundation, who lives in the Vaniköy region.
