Transforming New Democracy
Kyriakos Mitsotakis is out to transform New Democracy from a center-right party with clear references to the traditional parliamentary Right, into a centrist, liberal political party. Greece has a right, as well as an obligation, to defend its Aegean islands against Turkish aggression, President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Monday.
First female president elected with large majority
Top judge Katerina Sakellaropoulou was comfortably elected Greece's first female president on Wednesday, wining the support of 261 out of 294 MPs present in Parliament.
The 63-year-old president of the Council of State will replace incumbent Prokopis Pavlopoulos, whose five-year term ends in mid-March.

With a nod from Parliament, Greece gets first female president
Top judge Katerina Sakellaropoulou became Greece's first woman president on Wednesday when lawmakers elected her head of state in a rare display of unity.
Sakellaropoulou, 63, has been president of the Council of State, Greece's top administrative court. She will succeed Prokopis Pavlopoulos, whose five-year term expires in March.
