North Macedonia's chief state prosecutor, Ljubomir Joveski, has suspended the head of the Organised Crime Prosecution, Vilma Ruskovska, over a suspicion that she has made a "major professional mistake" while recently probing the premises of the Financial Police for alleged crimes.

Another was the case codenamed "Extortion" which, ironically, landed one of her colleagues, Katica Janeva, in jail, and spelled the demise of the institution that Janeva had led, the Special Prosecution, SJO - previously admired as the herald of change in the judiciary and which had been expected to wage an uncompromising fight against top-level corruption.

Macedonia's ruling coalition has been hit by a bitter dispute between coalition partners over the fate of the former speaker.

As the trial of 30 people accused of participating in the violent storming of Macedonia's parliament in 2017 continues, the Prosecution and Interior Ministry say they are still seeking the possible masterminds behind the attack.
