Russia is accusing Turkey of helping jihadists recruit fighters from the Caucasus and Central Asia to fight in Syria, according to a letter sent to the UN Security Council.
 

The U.N. Security Council warned on Dec. 17 that some countries are failing to implement long-standing sanctions against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), as an unprecedented meeting of finance ministers put the global focus on cutting off the militant group's funds. 

Iraq's ambassador to the UN on Dec. 8 appeared to play down a dispute between Baghdad and Ankara over the deployment of Turkish troops in northern Iraq, saying bilateral talks between the neighboring states to end the row were proceeding favorably.

Russia's U.N. envoy cast doubt on Dec. 8 on U.S. plans to hold a third meeting of world powers on Syria next week, saying the process to try to end the four-year civil war would be devalued if certain requirements were not met first.

Serbia's mission to UN has protested over the presence of a Kosovo delegation at a counter-terrorism meeting at UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

UN representatives called it "a private meeting organized by the US, which is why Kosovo was treated as an independent state," Serbia's public broadcaster, RTS, reported on Wednesday.

Russia vetoed on Wednesday the United Nations (UN) resolution on establishing an international tribunal for prosecuting the people guilty of shooting down the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17).

Eleven members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) voted in favour of the proposal, which would have been enough for the resolution to be adopted, but Russia used its right of veto.

Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on July 29 that sought to set up a special tribunal to try those responsible for shooting down flight MH17 over Ukraine.

Russia vetoed a draft UN resolution on July 8 that would have recognized the Srebrenica massacre as genocide, triggering warnings the bitter diplomatic wrangling could spark renewed violence.

Russian veto on British resolution on Srebrenica

The British draft resolution on Srebrenica has not been adopted by the United Nations Security Council, because Russia vetoed it.

Earlier in the day, Russia suggested that the document should not be put up for a vote at all.

Vitaly Churkin, having vetoed a draft British resolution on Srebrenica, said that passed, it would only have led to an increase of tensions in the Balkans.
