Three militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were caught on camera in the eastern province of Siirt, with local police claiming the militants were preparing an attack in the center of the province, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The angle of an 11th century mosque minaret near the eastern Turkish province of Elazığ has drawn comparisons to Pisa's famous leaning tower.      

Walnut sweets known as "cevizli sucuk" or "orcik" are loved all over Turkey, but some of the best examples come from the eastern province of Elazığ.  Now, residents of the village of Mığı in the province have begun making a big splash with the sweet, selling it all over the country. 

Turkish police have detained more than 70 people, including soldiers, as part of an ongoing probe into the failed coup attempt.

Forty of them are "high-ranking military officers," according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

University students residing in a public dormitory in the eastern province of Elazığ took to the streets late on Oct. 11 to protest the conditions of their dormitory in the wake of a series of protests at dormitories elsewhere in the country.

An indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in the eastern province of Elazığ on Oct. 9 after experiencing problems during an emergency landing, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Turkey has become one of the world's leading drone producers and is now targeting the production of up to four tons of drones in weight, Science, Industry and Technology Minister Faruk Özlü has told state-run Anadolu Agency. 

"Our aim is to produce 3.5-4 tons of armed drones in weight and to equip them with high quality weapons and cameras," Özlü said.

Former ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy Feyzi İşbaşaran, who has been arrested on allegations of "insulting the president," was punched in the face and attacked with eggs in two separate protests against him in Istanbul on Dec. 8.
