Turkey calls EU, Council of Europe to raise voice on Netherlands' breach of rights

Turkey has called on the European Union and the Council of Europe to raise their voices on the Netherlands' alleged breach of fundamental freedoms and European human rights convention, accusing the Dutch government of causing a crisis in international law with its violence against Turkish demonstrators and a member of the Turkish government, according to EU Minister Ömer Çelik.

No summit, no progress: Turkey to EU

The only way to jumpstart stalled Turkey-EU ties is to hold a high-level summit between the two parties, Turkish EU Minister Ömer Çelik has said, suggesting that it should occur in the first half of 2017 and produce concrete results in Turkey's accession process, as well as a visa exemption to Turkish nationals. 

Diyarbakır couple name new-born baby 'Yes' ahead of Turkey's charter referendum

A couple living in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır's Ergani disrict have named their new-born baby "Evet," meaning yes in Turkish, to draw attention to the country's April 16 referendum on the charter amendment, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 15.

'Erdoğanophobia' exists in Europe, Turkey's EU minister says

"Erdoğanophobia" has existed in Europe for a long time, based on Islamophobia and xenophobia, Turkey's European Union Minister Ömer Çelik said in an article published on Feb. 11.

"European diplomats are talking about constitutional reform in Turkey without knowing about the content of it," Çelik told French newspaper Le Monde.

Turkey deserves applause from Europe for its performance in "defending democracy against the July 2016 coup attempt," European Union Affairs Minister Ömer Çelik has stated.

Turkey observes Council of Europe norms and the rule of law, Çelik told reporters on Jan. 24 after meeting U.K. Minister of State for International Trade Mark Price.
