G7 energy and climate ministers agreed a timeframe Tuesday for phasing out coal-fired power plants, setting a goal in the mid-2030s, in a move hailed as significant by some environmentalists but described as "too late" by others.

China condemned on Tuesday as "groundless accusations" U.S. claims that Beijing was fuelling the Ukraine war by supplying components to Russia which it uses for its military expansion.
China and Russia have ramped up economic cooperation and diplomatic contacts in recent years and their strategic partnership has only grown closer since the invasion of Ukraine.
