Aegean features among the world's top journeys
A trip around the Aegean is one of the best 50 journeys of a lifetime, according to international tour operator Flight Network.
The route selected in "The World's Best Journeys 2018" includes Athens, Aegina, Hydra, Kythnos, Kea, Syros, Myconos, Naxos, Paros, Ios (pictured), Sifnos, Santorini and Iraklio.

Animal rights groups decry conditions at Aegina sanctuary
Inspections conducted by animal rights groups and the Environment Ministry have shed light on deteriorating standards at the Greek Center for the Protection of Wildlife (EKPAZ) on the Saronic island of Aegina, where dozens of animals and birds, some of them endangered species, are languishing in dismal conditions.
Ferry rams into port of Agistri, five injured
A Greek passenger ferry carrying 198 people onboard crashed into the port of Agistri, in the Saronic Gulf on Friday, injuring lightly five people, the coast guard said.
"Achaeos", which serves the Aegina-Piraeus route, was trying to dock when the collision happened. The passengers who suffered minor injuries were transferred to Aegina.

Captain from tourist vessel collision dies
The 78-year-old captain of a speedboat that collided with a tourist vessel off the Saronic island of Aegina killing four people in August of last year died on Thursday, it emerged on Friday.
Thrasyvoulos Lykourezos was remanded in custody almost immediately after the tragedy and remained in prison for a full year.

Attica mayors rally to Aegina's aid over trash
Ten municipal authorities in Attica on Thursday responded to a cry for help from Aegina, sending garbage trucks and crews to clear the holiday island's streets of piles of trash that have appeared since the beginning of August.

Pelicans released back in the wild
Staff from the Greek Wildlife Hospital on the Saronic island of Aegina release a pelican into the wild at Kerkini Lake in northern Greece, in this photo released Monday.
A rosy pelican and two Dalmatian pelicans - both of which are endangered species - were returned to their natural habitat after receiving treatment for injuries and being tagged with a tracking device.
