The Greek gastronomy and travel writers visited Turkey's southeastern Gaziantep province to watch the making of the world-famous Turkish dessert of baklava.     

Pastry-makers in Turkey's southeastern city of Gaziantep are hard at work at their ovens making the world-famous Turkish dessert of baklava ahead of Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice.

More than 2 kg of heroin were caught by custom-house officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint. The drug was found on June 26th in a bus with Turkish registration that traveled from Turkey to Romania through Bulgaria with 31 passengers.

Kebab shops, pastry makers, liver sellers and, of course, baklava sellers seem to be in a competition to whet visitors' appetites. Walking on the narrow, meandering streets of the city that covers its worn-out appearance with a new face, makes one feel like solving a puzzle step by step. 

The traditional Turkish dessert baklava will not be produced with pistachio during Ramadan this year due to high pistachio prices, association heads stated on May 12.

A group of chefs in Turkey claimed a world record for the largest baklava on March 22 with a giant tray of the pastry dessert weighing over half a ton.

Supermarket chain Lidl has apologized for airbrushing Christian crosses out of images of the Greek island of Santorini on some of its food packaging, after being hit by criticism on social media.

Pistachio is a passion for the people of Gaziantep, and the city is surely Turkey's capital of pistachios where most dishes, either savory or sweet, take their generous share of the greenest nut. The end of the summer is the period when pistachio pickers constantly check the groves for the ideal harvest time.

Traditional Greek cuisine is very healthy and fresh. Recipes are known for their for their simplicity and the uses of fresh ingredients. It is one of the reasons, along with the natural beauties of the landscape and the warm weather that appeals to tourists.
