Kefalogianni to visit Istanbul to discuss tourism initiatives

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni is to visit Istanbul on Monday. During her three-day stay, the minister will meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, visit the new Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) offices and have contacts with businesspeople and tourism-sector organizations, such as the Turkey Travel Agencies Association (TURSAB).

Ecumenical patriarch seen visiting Australia in October for centennial celebrations

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual leader of the world's roughly 300 million Greek Orthodox Christians, is planning to visit Australia later this year. 

The visit, according to Australian Archbishop Makarios, is part of a series of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

Bartholomew, Ieronymos exchange wishes for new year

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the head of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, exchanged wished for the new year, state-run news agency AMNA reported on Tuesday.

Ieronymos called Bartholomew on New Year's Eve with both leaders expressing hope that the much-desired peace would prevail in the war-torn and conflict-ridden world in 2024.

Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew and Greece's Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Katsaniotis attended a mass held in the Church of St. Trifonos on the Gökçeada (Imbros) island of the northwestern province of Çanakkale on Feb. 1.

The church, located on Turkey's biggest island and which is also Bartholomew's homeland, was restored and opened to worship on Aug. 9, 2021, after 55 years.
