Bulgaria–Greece relations

Serbia on Sunday completed the interconnector to a pipeline in Bulgaria which would allow the Balkan country to diversify its gas supplies and reduce its dependence on Russia.

The Hellenic-Bulgarian Interconnector Pipeline (IGB) Project consists of a pipeline approximately 182 km long

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Thursday expected the progress of construction of the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria. "This is a geostrategic project for both Bulgaria and the entire region," the PM said, quoted by the Government Information Service.

An agreement between Greece and Bulgaria concerning the IGB natural gas pipeline project (Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria) was tabled in the Greek Parliament on Tuesday.

The agreement includes mutual commitments for the construction of the gas pipeline and for the transportation of gas after the project has been completed.

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a bilateral meeting in Alexandroupoli before the fourth sitting of the Council on High-Level Co-operation Council between the governments of Bulgaria and Greece, said the government press office.

Italy is an important partner for Bulgaria in the EU and an ally in NATO.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva will participate in Thessaloniki in the fourth ministerial meeting in Bulgaria, Greece, Albania and Macedonia, reported the Bulgarian National Television.

"The only salvation for the European Union is to be united. Or, as Angela Merkel says, "a sheet of paper should not be able to pass between us." This was stated by the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov at the press conference after the end of the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia.

The Prime Minister thanked the Euroleaders for coming to Bulgaria to join the talks.

Europe is part of Bulgaria's DNA and since the first day of its accession to the EU, it has been behaving like one of the founders of the Union, while some of the founders are not always acting as such.
