Ukraine warns of ‘consequences' if EU split on bid

Ukraine's foreign minister warned European Union leaders yesterday that if they fail to agree to open membership talks with Kiev at their summit this week it will have "devastating consequences."

"I cannot imagine," Dmytro Kuleba told reporters in Brussels "I don't even want to talk about the devastating consequences that will occur shall the Council fail to make this decision."

Ukraine tells NATO it won't 'back down' in Russia fight

Ukraine's foreign minister said yesterday that the country won't "back down" in its fight against Russia, despite doubts over U.S. support and minimal progress on the front line.

"We have to continue, we have to keep fighting. Ukraine is not going to back down," Ukraine's top diplomat Dmytro Kuleba told Kiev's NATO backers in Brussels.

"Ukraine has so far managed to recover half of the lands seized by Russia, and this is a great victory." This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference ahead of this week's two-day meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries of the pact at the headquarters of the alliance in Brussels.

Missile strikes over Kiev as African leaders visit

Ukraine said Friday it withstood a wave of Russian missiles including hypersonic Kinzhals, which were downed over the Kiev region where African leaders were due to hold talks as part of a peace mission.

"Russian missiles are a message to Africa: Russia wants more war, not peace," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.
