Tremor measuring 5.1 hits northeast of Karpathos

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook a sea area situated 141 kilometers northeast of the island of Karpathos, in the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea, at 6.53 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center the quake’s epicenter was put at 77 kilometers below surface.

Coast guard rescues 17 migrants off Farmakonisi

The Greek Coast Guard rescued 17 irregular migrants off the southern Aegean island of Farmakonisi on Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, the immigrants had to jump into the sea northeast of the island after the boat they were trying to reach Greece in started taking water on board. All 17 migrants are reported to be well. They have been taken to the island of Leros.

Woman, 43, murdered on Kos


Police on the Dodecanese island of Kos in the southeastern Aegean were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 43-year-old woman on Monday.

The victim, a Romanian national, was discovered in a pool of blood by her partner, an Albanian national, in her home in the village of Platani.
