Covid-19 toll at 89 after three more patients die

Three patients have died since the last government update on the course of the coronavirus epidemic in Greece on Thursday evening, bringing the total toll to 89.

Overnight, a 79-year-old man died at the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, and an 86-year-old woman succumbed to the virus at the capital's Attikon Hospital.

Anatolia College coronavirus fund raises more than 56,000 euros

A fund launched by Anatolia College in Thessaloniki to respond to the coronavirus crisis has so far raised more than 56,000 euros from more than 320 donors worldwide.

Organizers said the funds will be used to supply the intensive care unit of the northern port city's AHEPA hospital with valuable equipment and medical supplies. 

Covid-19 death toll in Greece rises to 81

Greece's coronavirus toll has risen to 81 with the death of a 42-year-old man in the northern port city of Thessaloniki and of an 84-year-old woman in Athens.

According to reports, the 42-year-old man died at Thessaloniki's AHEPA General Hospital on Monday night after being admitted on March 29. He is the virus' first victim from the region of Halkidiki.

Populists Shrug Off Protests in Central and Southeast Europe

As in countries across the world, pro-democracy grassroots movements had little success in stopping assaults on independent institutions, the report found.

"While protest movements in every region have illustrated widespread popular demand for better governance, they have yet to reverse the overall pattern of declining freedom," Freedom House said in a statement.

AHEPA backs Greek decision to secure border, urges Turkey sanctions

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) has expressed its support for Greece's decision to secure its borders after Turkey relaxed curbs on the movement of migrants toward the EU border, while slamming Turkey for using Syrian refugees as "political pawns" in order to advance its own causes.
