One more patient died from Covid-19 while being treated in Thessaloniki's AHEPA hospital on Wednesday evening, according to media reports.

The victim is a 57-year-old woman who had an underlying illness, the reports said.

The new fatality brings the unofficial death toll to 103. 

Three patients have died since the last government update on the course of the coronavirus epidemic in Greece on Thursday evening, bringing the total toll to 89.

Overnight, a 79-year-old man died at the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, and an 86-year-old woman succumbed to the virus at the capital's Attikon Hospital.

A fund launched by Anatolia College in Thessaloniki to respond to the coronavirus crisis has so far raised more than 56,000 euros from more than 320 donors worldwide.

Organizers said the funds will be used to supply the intensive care unit of the northern port city's AHEPA hospital with valuable equipment and medical supplies. 

Greece's coronavirus toll has risen to 81 with the death of a 42-year-old man in the northern port city of Thessaloniki and of an 84-year-old woman in Athens.

According to reports, the 42-year-old man died at Thessaloniki's AHEPA General Hospital on Monday night after being admitted on March 29. He is the virus' first victim from the region of Halkidiki.

Five people have died from Covid-19 by this afternoon within a matter of hours bringing the death toll to 37 in Greece.

Three of the latest victims were elderly people who were being treated in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Alexandroupolis.

Freedom House, an American organization dedicated to supporting and defending democracy around the world, publishes its annual report on the state of democracy and civil liberties in countries around the world for 2019.  

As in countries across the world, pro-democracy grassroots movements had little success in stopping assaults on independent institutions, the report found.

"While protest movements in every region have illustrated widespread popular demand for better governance, they have yet to reverse the overall pattern of declining freedom," Freedom House said in a statement.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) has expressed its support for Greece's decision to secure its borders after Turkey relaxed curbs on the movement of migrants toward the EU border, while slamming Turkey for using Syrian refugees as "political pawns" in order to advance its own causes.

Three organizations donated medical supplies to Athens' Evangelismos hospital worth more than one million US dollars to cover the needs of the hospital.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) has hailed the planned meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday "as a further indication that United States-Greece relations are at an apex."
