Director and actor Richard Attenborough dies aged 90

British director and actor Richard Attenborough has died aged 90 after a sparkling career spanning six decades, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) said on Aug. 24.
      
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of esteemed filmmaker and former BAFTA President, Lord Attenborough," the organisation said in a statement.

In his career of six decades Lord Attenborough appeared in films like “Brighton Rock”, “The Great Escape”, “Doctor Dolittle” and blockbuster “Jurassic Park” and as a director he won two Oscars for “Gandhi.”

Actress Lauren Bacall dies at 89

Lauren Bacall, the sultry actress with the heavy-lidded eyes and husky voice who captured Humphrey Bogart's heart both on and off the movie screen, died on Aug. 11 at the age of 89.

"With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall," the estate of the Bogart family said on a verified Twitter account.

Actor Robin Williams Found Dead, Suicide Suspected

Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead on Monday from a suspected suicide at his home in Northern California.

An investigation into the cause of the death of the 63-year-old actor is underway, but “the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia“, international media outlets reported.

Thessaloniki coast guard officers make conraband cigarette haul

Coast guard officers in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, have arrested two suspects in connection with a cargo container carrying nearly 9 million packets of contraband cigarettes.

The two suspects, aged 64 and 48, were arrested as they took possession of the documents pertaining to the container in which the illegal goods were found.

Both faced a prosecutor.
