Foreign relations of Ukraine

Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska took part in an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states, held on the evening of February 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. Steps to support Ukraine and provide humanitarian aid were discussed.

"Bulgaria strongly supports tough sanctions in response to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, including sanctions against the Security Council of the Russian Federation and President Putin."

Russia began evacuating its embassy in Kyiv, and Ukraine urged its citizens to leave Russia on Wednesday as the region braced for further confrontation after President Vladimir Putin received authorization to use military force outside his country and the West responded with sanctions.

Paris – Foreign Minister Anže Logar attended the first ministerial forum on cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region organised by the French EU presidency on Tuesday. Some of the Russian troops stationed on the border with Ukraine are returning to their garrisons. This was reported by TASS and Interfax.

The official announcement of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Moscow is that they have already completed their exercises in the area.

Governments all over South-eastern Europe have urged their citizens to leave Ukraine due to concerns that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is intensifying. Most of these warnings came over the weekend.

Ukraine may withdraw from NATO membership to avoid war, Ukrainian Ambassador to Britain Vadym Prystaiko told the BBC, Reuters reported, noting that this would be a big concession to Moscow in response to the accumulation of Russian troops on Russia's border with Ukraine.

The European Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday (16 September) making a clear distinction between the Russian people and the regime of President Vladimir Putin, which it described as a "stagnating authoritarian kleptocracy led by a president-for-life surrounded by a circle of oligarchs".

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu participated today in the 16th Bled Strategic Forum - Slovenia, where he was invited to speak at the panel on "EU's Challenging Eastern Partnership Summit 2021: Calibrating its Agenda".
