Five-year-old in ICU after crash on Crete

A 5-year-old girl who was in one of two cars that crashed in the Cretan prefecture of Rethymno on Sunday was in the intensive care unit of Iraklio General Hospital on Monday.

The local traffic police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the collision between the two cars on the national highway near the small town of Skaleta.

British tourist found safe in Crete

Α British national who went missing after going for a walk in a mountainous area in the regional unit of Iraklio, Crete, was found safe, Greek authorities said Thursday.
Giannis Zafiriou, spokesman of the local EMAK search and rescue unit, said the 72-year-old man is dehydrated and tired, but well in his health.

Tourism drops in Greece after 5 record years

Tourism traffic this summer in Greece is slightly slower than last year, according to surveys, air arrival data and hoteliers.

The biggest pressure has been reported in Crete, as air arrivals dropped 7.2 percent in Iraklio in May and 5.6 percent in Hania. All other Fraport Greece-managed regional airports posted a decline averaging at 1.5 percent compared to a year earlier.

Three arrested at Iraklio airport with forged documents

Three foreign nationals, two men, aged 21 and 25, and a 28-year-old woman, were arrested at Iraklio airport on Crete on Tuesday on charges of using forged travel documents.
The suspects had attempted to board flights to Italy and France using forged Italian, French and Austrian documents. They were to appear before a prosecutor.
