If Turkey's spoilsport president gets his way, he will soon be locking up Enes Kanter, a Turkish star center for the New York Knicks.

An Istanbul prosecutor has applied for an Interpol "red notice" to be issued for Turkish NBA player Enes Kanter for his links to FETÖ, the group that is widely believed to have orchestrated the failed coup attempt of 2016.

Normally, the Oklahoma City Thunder would be trying to find a replacement for Kevin Durant, or figure out how to get past the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs or Houston Rockets. They probably didn’t expect they’d have to struggle to keep their center Enes Kanter from being jailed and possibly executed in Turkey by an increasingly authoritarian leader.

A court in the northwestern province of Tekirdağ released the father of NBA player Enes Kanter on June 7, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The court ordered the release of Mehmet Kanter under "judicial control."

The current, authoritarian government in Turkey is not big on dissent (they have beaten protestors of the Turkish regime at a march in this country). Or human rights.

So what’s real trouble for them is opposition and dissent from a famous, well-known person.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Oklahoma City center Enes Kanter as part of an investigation launched into him in Turkey for being a member of an armed terrorist organization. 

Kanter, who is a staunch supporter of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, has been named a "fugitive" by a Turkish court, Sabah newspaper reported on May 26. 

Oklahoma City center Enes Kanter has reported receiving death threats over his support for Fethullah Gülen, who is widely believed to have masterminded last year's coup attempt in Turkey, noting that he may seek an expedited process to becoming a U.S. citizen.

Oklahoma City Thunder center Enes Kanter, who is known to be a staunch follower of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, is believed to have orchestrated July, 2016 coup attempt which left 249 people killed and nearly 2,200 injured in Turkey, was detained in airport in Romania on May 20.

Romanian police reportedly seized Kanter's passport due to it was cancelled.

Turkish center Enes Kanter, who signed to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder next season, heated up the debate on his exclusion from the national team, implying in a tweet his exclusion?s links to his political views against President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.
