Fourth arrest over Varoufakis assault in March

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in relation with the beating of Yanis Varoufakis almost two months ago.

The MeRA25 leader and former finance minister was assaulted at a taverna in the city center district of Exarchia on March 10.

He blamed "hired thugs" for the assault, in which he suffered a fractured nose.

Suspect in Varoufakis assault given conditional release

A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assaulting former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis has been released on condition that he report to a police station once a month.

The man had appeared before an investigative magistrate for juveniles to testify on the charges.

Earlier, Varoufakis, who now heads the MeRA25 party, testified that he did not wish to support the charge.

Second youth arrested in connection with Varoufakis assault

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in connection to the attack by a group of people on the leader of the MeRA25 party, Yanis Varoufakis, on Friday in a restaurant in the Exarchia district of central Athens.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old who was arrested for recording the attack on his phone will appear before a prosecutor on Wednesday.

A new opinion poll suggests ruling New Democracy's lead over main opposition SYRIZA has narrowed, with 2.9 percentage points now separating the parties.

The MRB poll for Open TV on voting intentions put New Democracy at 27.4% (down from 30.2%), SYRIZA at 24.5% (up from 24.3%) and PASOK-Movement for Change at 9% (-1).
