Police in the southern province of Antalya have dispersed locals protesting a decision to demolish a public park in order to construct a carpark. 

Residents of the Cumhuriyet neighborhood had been staging a sit-in protest in the Göçmen Park for a week in order to resist the Antalya Municipality's plan to demolish the park, but were met with a police intervention on July 31.  

In a press conference on June 19, Antalya Mayor Menderes Türel announced that they have decided to merge the national and international contest categories in the Antalya International Film Festival, which will be held between Oct. 21 and 27 this year.

The Antalya Police Department has sparked debate after issuing a statement on April 27 on a ban on alcohol consumption in outdoor locations on possibilities that drinking could cause "disturbance" to the surrounding. 

The situation in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya is that its tourism is quiet, but its politics is vivid and loud. 

An explosion has hit the carpark of the chamber of commerce and industry in the resort province of Antalya in Turkey, Hürriyet Daily News writes.

It is unclear what caused the explosion. Mayor of Antalya Menderes Turel has said it is premature to speak of a possible terrorist attack, according to CNN Türk.

The 53rd Antalya International Film Festival will be held this year between Oct. 16 and 23. 

At a recent press conference in Istanbul, Antalya Mayor Menderes Türel said they added two special film selections to the festival program related to the current political situation.
