Murder on the Orient Express

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, the "Longed For Republic Ball" event will be held at the historic Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul, featuring the theme of the republic balls that became a symbol of modernization during the early years of the newly established country.

"Death on the Nile" cruised to the top of the North American box office in its opening weekend, showing the continuing lure of a good old-fashioned Agatha Christie murder mystery, according to industry data on Feb. 13.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is screening Sidney Lumet's celebrated 1974 adaptation of Agatha Christies's "Murder on the Orient Express," featuring an all-star cast including Albert Finney as the indomitable sleuth Hercule Poirot, Lauren Bacall, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave and Ingrid Bergman, who won her third Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress

Agatha Christie lived here once, but only memories remain of the time the best-selling crime writer spent among the ruins of the ancient Iraqi city of Nimrud.

One of the world?s oldest luxury hotels, the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah in Istanbul, will host the ?Black Week Turkey? event on Oct. 22-24 in honor of Agatha Christie?s 125th birthday with the attendance of the famous author?s grandson and a number of leading crime fiction authors.
