St Nikolas oil tanker operator says it lost contact off Oman

The operator of the oil tanker St Nikolas, Greece-based Empire Navigation, said on Thursday it had lost contact with the vessel off Oman near the city of Sohar.

A spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the vessel had a crew of 19, one from Greece and 18 from the Philippines, and was carrying 145,000 metric tons of oil from Basra, Iraq, to Aliaga, Turkey.

Shots fired at Greek-owned tanker in Gulf in interaction with unspecified security forces

Shots were fired at a tanker in the Gulf on Wednesday in an interaction with an unspecified country's security forces, a British maritime body said, the latest incident in a series of seizures or attacks on commercial ships in the Gulf since 2019.

Oman with the First Two Cases of Coronavirus Infection

Oman's health ministry has announced the first two cases of people infected with the Chinese coronavirus in the country, Omani television quoted Reuters as saying. The infected are two Omani women who have returned from a visit to Iran. Both are in stable condition.

Oman has stopped all flights to Iran because of the coronavirus epidemic, Omani television added.

World leaders traveled on Jan. 12 to Oman to meet the country's new sultan, named just a day earlier after the death of the nation's longtime ruler Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Prince Charles were among those who arrived in Muscat to meet Oman's new ruler, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
