Moscovici to visit Athens on Wednesday

European Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici is due in Athens on Wednesday where he will meet with government ministers and the prime minister.

Moscovici will first see President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and then meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at Maximos Mansion between 14:45 and 15:30. Their meeting will be followed by brief statements to the press.

President receives swimming team that helps island children

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos lavished praised on the Pastra Cretonaxiosa swimming team for its charity work in support of children as an example to society.

Pavlopoulos, who received members of the team at the Presidential Mansion in Athens on Wednesday, lauded the group's work as "valuable" at a time when "solidarity is missing from the world."

Data protection agency submits final report under old law

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos was presented on Thursday with the annual report of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA).

The report for 2017 was the last written up under European Union legislation on data protection introduced in 1995. New Europe-wide legislation known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in Greece in May this year.

Kammenos: President, party leaders could block FYROM name deal

Greece won't relinquish 'inch' of its rights

Greece wants to live peacefully with Turkey but will not "relinquish an inch" of its territorial rights, President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Friday during a speech in Thessaloniki.

Tensions between the two countries flared up after former foreign minister Nikos Kotzias said last week that the country was planning to extend its western territorial waters soon.
