The Residential Night Rate for electricity for the summer period starts on Wednesday and will last until October 31.

The summer schedule for the residential nighttime tariff provides reduced rates between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. 

Eurostat's latest findings have shed light on the shifting landscape of household energy prices in the European Union, with Bulgaria emerging as a frontrunner in affordability. According to the report released on Thursday, Bulgaria secured the title of having the EU's second-lowest household electricity prices in the second half of 2023, trailing only behind Hungary.

Electricity bills will be even lower in March, as the continued de-escalation of gas rates drags down the price of electricity in the wholesale market.

For March, the charge per kilowatt-hour on the green tariffs is estimated to move to 10 to 11 cents, while for the yellow-marked tariffs the charge will drop to pre-energy crisis levels, with the price per kWh even below 8 cents.

Estimates for a decline in electricity prices were have been confirmed by the providers, who have announced the green tariff charges for February consumption.

The price per kilowatt-hour is down on average to 13.3 cents, 11% below the corresponding price in January (14.7 cents), with the price range for February ranging from 11.9 to 14.6 cents against 13.6 to 17.1 cents in January.

The European Commission has initiated four infringement procedures against Bulgaria, marking a formal notice sent to the country. Bulgaria now faces a two-month window to respond to the notice, or the Commission may proceed to issue a reasoned opinion.

"Green" power tariffs will range between 13.6 and 17 cents per kilowatt-hour in January, according to the announcements of electricity suppliers. 

The time to choose colored electricity tariffs has arrived and consumers will be pleasantly surprised, since the prices across the range of rates are lower than what they have been paying until now with subsidies.

The time to choose the right electricity rate has come, and the universe seems to have conspired with consumers and supported the efforts of the minister of environment and energy, Thodoros Skylakakis, to reduce prices.

Special tariffs will come into effect on January 1 for consumers who use smart meters for electricity consumption, designed by electricity suppliers in compliance with the decisions of the Ministry of Environment and Energy for the new framework that will determine retail electricity as of 2024.
