The Azerbaijani state oil company, SOCAR, has agreed to import additional amounts of natural gas to Turkey amid a cut in the flow from Iran, a senior official of the company has said.

Thanks to recent investments in natural gas and electricity infrastructure, Turkey will not face any energy shortage in winter, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.

One-fifth of the pipeline capacity of the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) can be used to transport hydrogen to Europe without the need for further investments, Elshad Nasirov, vice president for investment and marketing at SOCAR, said during a virtual event late Tuesday.

The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) has reached a plateau of its 16 billion cubic meters (bcm) annual capacity, the CEO of the company running the pipeline said on Jan. 14. 

Azerbaijan has started commercial natural gas supplies to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the energy ministry said on Thursday, beginning its push into the lucrative energy market dominated by Russia.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extolled the benefits of the Trans-Anatolia Natural Gas Pipeline Project in an article he wrote for the latest issue of The Diplomat magazine.

In the article "TANAP: Regional Development and Peace Project" published in collaboration with the New York Times, Erdoğan emphasized that TANAP is a regional peace project.

The foreign ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia assessed progress made in trilateral cooperation and discussed recent regional and global developments in the Georgian capital Tbilisi on Dec. 23. 

Bulgaria's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will visit Baku in February, Trend learned from a diplomatic source.

Petkova will attend the 5th meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor to be held on February 20 in Baku, noted the source.

The source added that Petkova will visit the country with a large delegation from Bulgaria.

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has completed its 3.9-billion-euro project financing, paving the way for construction to be completed for start-up in 2020, its managing director said on Friday.

The TurkStream natural gas pipeline project which will carry Russian gas to Turkey and Europe will be completed by the end of 2019 as planned, according to Aslı Esen, the project's spokeswoman.
