Mardin draws crowds during Eid al-Fitr holiday

The southern province of Mardin, renowned for its rich cultural allure and historical sites, saw a surge in both local and foreign tourists during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

With over 60 hotels boasting 22,000 beds reaching a 90 percent occupancy rate, and Midyat district welcoming 10,000 daily visitors, the region hosted a bustling atmosphere.

Historic caves, artifacts along Euphrates River to be preserved

The area along the banks of the Euphrates River, boasting multi-story caves harboring civilizations for millennia, is set to be officially registered for preservation.

These ancient caves, nestled in rocks on both sides of the river, feature intriguing walkways, pits and tombs adorned with historical artifacts.

5 Iraqis killed in armed attack in Mardin en route to hospital

An Iraqi group of five people, who were on their way to a private hospital in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, were killed in an armed attack on early Jan. 19 in the neighboring province of Mardin.

The perpetrators of the armed attack on the jeep, which set off from Iraq's Duhok Governorate, followed the vehicle from the Habur Border Gate, according to the local media.

Syriac nun returns from Germany, starts farming in village

Returning to her hometown after 36 years abroad, a Syriac nun, who speaks 14 languages and has written 22 books, started farming in the southeastern province of Mardin.

Hatune Doğan, who emigrated from Mardin's Midyat district with her family in 1985 and settled in Germany, is now engaged in agriculture in her hometown.
