Authorities on high alert for escaped jihadists
With Turkey's invasion of northeastern Syria leading to the escape of Islamic State (ISIS) jihadists from prisons guarded by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Greek security officials have been placed on high alert due to concerns they may seek their repatriation in Europe, using Greece as a bridge.

All US troops withdrawing from Syria expected to go to Iraq: Pentagon chief
U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Oct. 19 that all of the nearly 1,000 troops withdrawing from northern Syria are expected to move to western Iraq to continue the campaign against ISIL militants and "to help defend Iraq."
UN: Danger of Jihadist Prisoners Spread in Syria
The UN Security Council warned in a unanimous statement about the risk of "dispersal" of jihadist prisoners in Syria, but did not call for an end to Turkey's offensive against Kurdish forces there.
"Security Council members have expressed deep concern about the risks of terrorist spreading by UN-designated groups, including the Islamic State," the statement said.

Donald Trump: Kurds May Be Releasing Some ISIL Fighters
US President Donald Trump said today that Kurdish-led forces in Northeast Syria could release detained fighters from the ISIL group to force the US to return its troops to the area, BTA reported.
Turkey's operation in Syria has raised concerns that ISIL fighters detained by Kurdish-led US allies may flee and rebuild the group. It is claimed that many fighters have already escaped.
A Turkish Air Strike Hits a Jail that Holds Islamic State Jihadists
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces coalition, which controls northeastern Syria, said a Turkish air strike had hit a jail holding jihadists, Reuters reported.
"One of the prisons that ISIS detainees (are) held in was struck by Turkish airstrike," the Kurdish-Arab coalition told Twitter in no further detail.
US welcomes Denmark's military assistance in Syria
The U.S. on Sept. 6 hailed Denmark's decision to deploy troops in Syria to assist the global coalition fight against ISIL.

Bosnian Charged with Attempting to Join ISIS
Bosnia's state prosecution on Monday charged Ibro Cufurovic with taking part in terrorist activities and with fighting for so-called Islamic State in Syria, ISIS/L, from 2014 until April this year, when he was deported to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The prosecution says Cufurovic travelled to Turkey on April 21, 2014, from where he illegally went to Syria and joined ISIS/ISIL forces.

Germany rebuffs US request for ground troops in Syria
A government spokesman says Germany isn't considering sending ground troops to Syria as part of its contribution to fighting the ISIL.
Iraq Returns Children to Jihadists in Their Home Countries
Iraq returned to Turkey 188 Turkish children accused of membership in the Islamic State.
Last month, Iraqi authorities returned another 84 children to Tajikistan after their parents were charged with the same charges.
