Day of mourning for workers who died in Siberia

BELGRADE -- The Serbian government has declared Thursday, February 12, a day of mourning for six Serbian workers who died in a fire in Siberia, Russia.

"The Serbian government adopted at its session today the decision to declare a day of mourning following the tragic death of six construction workers from Serbia who died in a fire that broke out at the Siberian Yamal Peninsula in Russia," the government said on its website.

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, according to the data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation provided at the request of the Serbian embassy in Moscow, the workers perished in a fire that occurred in a mobile village near the city of Salekhard, located about 3,000 km from Moscow.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it "expected a report as soon as possible," while "the embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Moscow is in constant contact with the competent authorities and has sent a representative to the scene."
