SDA-PDD caucuses will not participate in committee work

BELGRADE - The caucus of the Party of Democratic Action of Sandzak (SDA) - Party of Democratic Action (PDD) notified Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic and the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality that it will not participate in the work of the committee because it is not working in the interest of national minorities.

The Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality has not carried out any tangible measures or proposed a programme, plan and strategy for solving the issue of national minorities in Serbia, the caucus said.

The release states that the work carried out so far by the Committee constitutes 'the best example of irresponsible and negative attitude toward members of national minorities, their position and realisation of their rights.'

The SDA Sandzak - Party of Democratic Action caucus notes that Serbia has the obligation to create a policy that will make it possible for members of national minorities to preserve their national identity by the adoption and implementation of quality laws, programmes, strategies and action plans.

The caucus noted that it will not take part in the work of the Committee until it is headed by a representative of the parliamentary majority from the lines of the most numerous Serb nation.

This will ensure that the parliamentary majority and the state-building political parties in it take over full responsibility for the position and realisation of national minority rights and a more efficient search for a solution to the minority issue in Serbia.
