Poverty risk rate at 25.6 percent in Serbia

BELGRADE - The poverty risk rate in Serbia in 2014 was 25.6 percent when viewed through income, the national bureau of statistics has said.

The risk rate for poverty or social exclusion in Serbia, when considering all the factors that can influence it, was 43.2 percent last year.

This was indicated by a survey on income and life conditions, which was conducted in Serbia for the second time in history and ran from May to July 2014, the bureau stated.

Persons under 18 are the most exposed to the risk of poverty (29.6 percent), while those over 65 are the least exposed (20.7 percent).

Depending on their employment status, unemployed people who are 18 and older run the most risk of being poor (47.1 percent), while the lowest risk rate is among the employed (8.6 percent).

The survey was anonymous, involved the direct interview method and was based on the standard methodology used in all the members of the EU, which allows for data comparison.
